Women in Exile
Founded in 2002 by refugee women in Brandenburg, Women in Exile is a non-profit organization advocating for the rights of refugee women in Germany. Confronting dual discrimination from both racist laws and gender-based biases, the organization serves as a platform to expose inhumane living conditions and strategize for political change. In 2011, Women in Exile expanded to include activists without a refugee background, forming “Women in Exile and Friends,” united in their mission to abolish discriminatory laws affecting asylum seekers and migrants, emphasizing the intertwined nature of racism and sexism.
Our collaboration with Women in Exile tackled challenges in their outdated website, specifically addressing the lack of mobile responsiveness and accessibility, along with slow performance. Under the leadership of Zoe Langer, the redesign’s visual elements seamlessly aligned with Women in Exile’s vision, with our role focused on website development.
We revamped the site to be responsive, ensuring a seamless experience across devices. To enhance inclusivity, we simplified the multi-language feature and introduced essential accessibility tools. The restructuring of the blog and archive improved information architecture and hierarchy. A pivotal focus was optimizing the donation process for a more user-friendly experience.
The outcome is a modern and fully accessible website empowering Women in Exile’s mission.
